Royal Icing

This was a recipe that I used for the gingerbread cookie recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp light corn syrup
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract
  • 3 cups icing sugar

Steps

  1. Add water, corn syrup and almond extract into bowl - mix together.
  2. Add icing sugar gradually and beat between additions.
  3. Optional: If too viscous and you'd like to thin out, add 1 tsp of water at a time (and beat) until the desired consistency.

1. Add 1/4 cup warm water to mixing bowl.

2. Add 1 tablespoon of light corn syrup to the mixing bowl:

3. Add 1/4 tsp almond extract.

4. Whisk together the wet ingredients.

5. Add your icing sugar gradually and you can choose to beat with electric mixer or manual mix.

We mixed initially by hand:

As you can see this gets viscous quickly:

We switched over an electric beater afterwards:

Voila! you are done. If its too thick, add 1 tsp of water a time until its at a consistency you like.
